Pilgrimage Church Maria Taferl
![]() The origin of the village Maria Taferl is linked closely to two men. The shepherd Thomas Pachmann and the judge Alexander Schinagl. Both of them were healed wondrously by praying in front of an oak tree to which a wooden cross and later a pietà was attached. More and more people came to Maria Taferl due to these healings and sightings of angels and in consequence the construction of a church began in the 17th century. The treasury is of particular interest, a splendid room painted colourfully and folksy in the baroque style and adorned with frescos which portray the history of creation on the ceilings and wondrous healings and rescues on the walls.
