Stroll along the tranquil laneways of this Mediterranean-like city where the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers meet. The museums in the former bishops` fortress of the Veste Oberhaus, the largest church organ in the world in the baroque cathedral and the pilgrim church of Mariahilf are all particularly worth a visit. Or why not enjoy a coffee on the quays and observe the lively goings-on.

Passau - Feldkirchen/Aschach, ca. 49 km + boat trip

You will begin your cycling holiday with a boat trip to Kasten. You will pass under the steep slopes of the nature conservation area on the Northern bank of the river, before you disembark the boat and start cycling. You will cycle along the Northern bank of the Danube past Niederranna in the direction of Schlögen. Those with lots of energy can take a detour just after Niederranna and visit the Haichenbach ruin. The wonderful view from here of the famous Schlögener loop in the river more than makes up for the steep climb. At Schlögen a granite cliff forces the Danube to loop and curve around it.
Overnight stay in Feldkirchen or Aschach

Aschach/Brandstatt- Linz, ca. 30 km

First you will cycle downstream to Wilhering. The Cistercian monastery is definitely worth a visit. The route passes Ottensheim and Puchenau on the way to Linz, the county capital town of Oberösterreich. The old industrial city has a number of cultural attractions. The historical centre and the large Medieval town square invite visitors to take a stroll around. For an intensive discovery of this beautiful city we have organized a small package.

Linz - Melk/Emmersdorf, ca. 48 km + train trip

You will continue on through Machland which is of cultural historical importance, where the town of Enns is located, which is the oldest settlement in Austria. In the mythological Strudengau you will find a narrow section of the Danube, which due to its strong currents was once feared by the Danube boatmen. The picturesque Grein is a beautiful subject for holiday snaps. You will then proceed through the wild and romantic Struden- and Nibelungengau in Wachau. You will cycle on through Ybbs and Persenbeug onto Melk. If you are not afraid of a steep climb then you can take a trip to Maria Taferl to the famous church of pilgrimage.

Melk/Emmersdorf - Krems, ca. 37 km

A short stage today gives you enough time to marvel at two of the highlights of your trip. First you will visit the well-known baroque Benedictine monastery in Melk. You will cycle through the Wachau region with its small wine-growing villages of Schallaburg, Spitz, Weißenkirchen and Dürnstein and then on to Krems, which was first documented in 995. Numerous testaments to the exciting history of the town are waiting to be discovered by you. We would be more than happy to extend your stay with extra nights or our Wachau package.

Krems - Stockerau/Tulln, ca. 60/45 km

In Krems you will leave the Wachau region (or you can extend your visit there) and a completely different landscape awaits you: the heights of the Wachau slowly give way to the expanse of the Tullner Field. Along the way you can take a trip to the Göttweig monastery, where you will find valuable treasure from the Middle Ages. You will reach the Roman city of Tulln along the Southern bank of the Danube.

Stockerau/Tulln - Vienna, ca. 30/40 km

Passing Korneuburg and Klosterneuburg with its attractive Augustinian Canon Monastery, you will reach the charming Danube Metropolis of Vienna. Vienna has something for everybody: whether it’s the Schönbrunn Castle, the Spanish Riding School, the cathedral (Stephansdom) or the ferris wheel in Prater. Whether you choose to take a horse-drawn carriage ride or a trip on the Danube, you will be able to view the city from a comfortable seated position. You will be able to buy some souvenirs and gifts in the famous Demel bakery.

Return journey to Passau and individual journey home or extension of stay

After breakfast your Danube cycling tour from Passau to Vienna comes to an end and you take the train to Passau or travel directly home. We would, however, be more than happy to extend your stay in Vienna with extra nights or you could avail of our special Vienna package.
