The „Danubian Meulensteen Art Museum“, which was founded and financed according to concepts made by Peter Pollag and Vincent Polakovic, is located in a picturesque area on a peninsula within the reservoir „Gabcikovo“, approximately 15 kilometres away from the Slovakian capital following the river upstream. The idea was to build a modern art gallery in close proximity to the controversial „Danube power plant“ dam in Gabcikovo to set a mark of cultural encounters. Since then, this gallery has hosted several exhibitions by internationally acknowledged artists like Karl Appel, Josep Guinovart or Magdalena Abkanowicz. As well as a private collection the museum also accommodates works of art by Slovakian artists. The collection also provides a basis for international art exchange with other art museums or galleries.
