Day 1
Stroll around the laneways of the three river city of Passau

Individual arrival in Passau

Stroll along the tranquil laneways of this Mediterranean-like city where the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers meet. The museums in the former bishops` fortress of the Veste Oberhaus, the largest church organ in the world in the baroque cathedral and the pilgrim church of Mariahilf are all particularly worth a visit. Or why not enjoy a coffee on the quays and observe the lively goings-on.

Day 2

Passau - Linz, ca. 80 km + boat trip

After breakfast there will be an informative talk and rental bikes will be distributed (if this has not already occurred). You will then begin your holiday along the Danube cycle path with a boat trip to Kasten. You will quickly come to the “Schlögener Schlinge”, which is an imposing wonder of nature; granite rocks force the Danube to make a 180 degree turn. You will continue on through picturesque Aschach with villas, facades and inner courtyards from Medieval, Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance times and on to the capital town of Upper Austria.

Day 3
Your Passau-Vienna tour leads you through Enns, the oldest town in Austria

Linz - Persenbeug, ca. 80 km

After a generous breakfast you will be ready to begin today’s cycle. The route leads you through Enns, the oldest town in Austria and then in the direction of Strudengau. You will also pass through the picturesque town of Grein, which is famous for having the country’s oldest theatre and also for the Greinburg Castle which you will be able to see from afar. You will then cycle through the romantic wilderness of the Struden- and Nibelungengau regions to the Wachau region. Cycling on through Ybbs, you will come to Persenbeug, where you can marvel at the impressive Danube hydroelectric power station.

Day 4
The well known monastery of Melk can be seen from afar

Persenbeug - Traismauer/Krems, ca. 81/66 km

Today you will cycle through the famous Wachau Valley with its small winegrowing villages and on to Krems or Traismauer. If you are not afraid of a steep climb then you could take a trip to Maria Taferl and visit the famous pilgrim church. As a reward you can then enjoy the descent fully. Cycling through Pöchlarn you will reach Melk, whose well known monastery can be seen from afar. Melk is also the gateway to Wachau. Passing Spitz and Dürnstein you will reach the winegrowing village of Krems. Today you will have lots of opportunities to have a break in one of the little wine taverns.

Day 5
The Danube metropolis Vienna has something for all tastes

Traismauer/Krems - Wien, ca. 63/78 km

Today you will leave the Wachau region and cycle into the Roman town of Tulln. A completely different landscape awaits you: instead of the hills of the Wachau Valley, the expansive plains of the Tullner Feld open out before you. Along the way you can visit the Göttweig monastery, where the artistic treasury with valuable medieval treasures is worth a visit. Passing through Greifenstein and Klosterneuburg you will continue on until you reach the destination of today’s tour, the Danube metropolis Vienna.

Day 6

Return Journey to Passau and individual journey home or extension of stay

After breakfast your Danube Cycle Tour comes to an end and you take the train or bus back to Passau or travel directly home. We would, however, be more than happy to extend your stay in Vienna with extra nights or you could avail of our special Vienna package.
