Day 1
Your cycle at austrian danube starts in the Baroque town of Schärding
Individual Arrival in Schärding/Inn (ca. 17 km to the south of Passau)
After your individual arrival you will be shown to your room and receive our travel documents and if you have booked them, your rental bikes will be available from reception. Have a stroll through the Baroque town of Schärding with its well kept townhouses or explore the Ganter-Aktiv-Weg (activity walking pathway).

Day 2
The three-river-city awaits you with its magical old-town
Schärding - Engelhartszell/St. Ägidi, ca. 37 km
On your first day on the Danube cycle path you will cycle along the Inn towards Passau. The three-river-city awaits you with its magical old-town. After a tour through the picturesque laneways you will take a boat trip along the three rivers and see the town from a different perspective. Then you will continue your tour along the northern bank of the Danube. Passing through Obernzell, you will reach Engelhartszell, where you will have the chance to visit the monastery and try the liqueurs made by the monks.

Day 3

Engelhartszell/St. Ägidi - Aschach/Eferding, ca. 42/46 km
Today you will reach the famous Schlögen Bend of the Danube. Here the Danube winds itself around a massive granite hill which is crowned by the romantic Haichenbach ruin. The natural wonder can be seen clearly from the viewing point "Schlögener Blick"; the walk to the viewing point takes a half an hour. After changing over to the right hand bank of the Danube you will continue on to Aschach.

Day 4
The capital town of Upper Austria is perfect for strolling through
Aschach/Eferding - Linz, ca. 27/32 km
Today you will cycle through the bird paradise of “Eferdinger Becken” to Ottensheim. The Rococo church and the Cistercian monastery in Wilhering are worth a visit. Today’s destination is Linz, the capital town of Upper Austria. The historical town centre and the large medieval market place are perfect for strolling through. A trip with the "Linz City Express" brings you to all the most important attractions. A trip with the lift to Poestlingberg mountain is recommended. From the pilgrim church you will have an impressive panoramic view. We would be happy to extend your stay in Linz with our Linz-Package.

Day 5
Near Mauthausen, the concentration camp of the same name is a monument to the darkest chapter in history
Linz - St. Florian - Enns/Mauthausen, ca. 35/30 km
You will continue on to Enns, the oldest settlement in Austria. Long before the Romans built their fort here, the Celts settled in the strategically positioned location. You should definitely take the 156 steps up the city tower: from the top you will have a lovely view of the market place with its colourfully painted and protected townhouses from the 17th and 18th centuries. You may also visit the Baroque monastery of St. Florian and the workplace of Anton Bruckners. Near Mauthausen, the concentration camp of the same name is a monument to the darkest chapter in history.

Day 6
In picturesque Grein you can visit the oldest town theatre in Austria
Enns/Mauthausen - Grein/Bad Kreuzen, ca. 37/43 km
The cycle path passes the open-air museum in Mitterkirchen. You will then continue onto picturesque Grein. Here you can visit the oldest town theatre in Austria. You should also visit Greinburg Castle and the shipping museum. The Danube also has a lot to offer visitors here in the way of landscape: in mythological Strudengau you will see a narrowing of the Danube, which was once feared by the Danube boatsmen due to the fierce flow of water there. This made Grein wealthy – as only the town’s inhabitants could guide boats through this dangerous part of the river. Those who still have excess cycling power should take a tour to Clam castle.

Day 7
You will reach Melk, whose monastery can be seen from afar. A visit to the world famous Benedictine monastery is the highlight of the day
Grein/Bad Kreuzen - Melk, ca. 48 km
Today’s route leads you through the wildly romantic “Struden- and Nibelungengau” in the Wachau Valley. Numerous wine taverns will tempt you along the way to taste the regional wines. You will cycle through Ybbs and on to Persenbeug, where you will have the chance to see the impressive Danube power station.  If you are not afraid of a steep climb then you could take a trip to Maria Taferl to the famous pilgrim church. As a reward you can then enjoy the downhill journey fully. Passing through Pöchlarn, you will reach Melk, whose monastery can be seen from afar. A visit to the world famous Benedictine monastery is the highlight of the day.

Today you will travel through the Wachau Valley with its small vineyard villages
Melk - Krems/Traismauer, ca. 53/40 km
Today you will travel through the Wachau Valley with its small vineyard villages, which is also worth an extended visit. The region is known world wide for its quality wines. Passing through Spitz and Dürnstein you will reach Krems, which was first mentioned in 995. You can discover the important historical events which happened in the town. In Krems you will the leave the Wachau Valley, and you will be greeted by a completely different landscape: The steepness of the Wachau Valley slowly disappears and in front the expansive Tullner Field opens out.

Whether you visit Schönbrunn Castle, the Spanish Equestrian School or Stephansdom (Cathedral): Vienna has something for all tastes
Krems/Traismauer - Wien, ca. 30/43 km and by train to Vienna
From the Nibelungen town of Traismauer you will continue on to the Roman town of Tulln. Here you will change over to the train. This will ensure you have enough time to see the sights of Vienna. The first overview of the city can be obtained from a trip on the Ferris Wheel in Prater. Whether you visit Schönbrunn Castle, the Spanish Equestrian School or Stephansdom (Cathedral): Vienna has something for all tastes. You can enjoy the city during a horse and carriage tour. In the evening you can choose from one of the many Viennese restaurants.
